KGFW Sports – Emmert ” Very Concerned”, Ohio State Changes and Legion Baseball

NCAA president Mark Emmert said Tuesday he remains “very concerned” about the status of fall sports and thinks a delayed start and shortened schedule might “make sense.”

The NCAA is allowing all major college football teams to begin their seasons as early as Aug. 29th. The association confirmed that the football oversight committee had requested a blanket waiver to permit any school to push up the start of its season to the so-called Week Zero. The official start of the season had been Labor Day weekend.

Ohio State is limiting attendance to 20,000 this season and banning tailgating. Fans inside the Horse Shoe will be required to wear masks and observe social distancing to help stem the spread of the coronavirus. Concessions inside the stadium will also be limited.

Michigan State says 16 athletes and four staff members tested positive for COVID-19 in the school’s latest round of testing. Michigan State on Friday announced the entire football program had entered a 14-day quarantine because of the recent positive tests.

Illinois senior running back Ra’Von Bonner will sit out the 2020 season because of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior offensive lineman Jake Cerny has also opted not to play this season.
