The Nebraska men’s basketball team will be trying to snap their eight game losing streak tonight at 9th ranked Maryland, tipoff is at 7:30. This is the Huskers third straight game against a ranked opponent. Maryland is 13-0 at home, including 6-0 in Big Ten action. Again tipoff tonight is at 7:30.

Four Blackshirts — Lamar Jackson, Darrion Daniels, and Carlos and Khalil Davis — have received invitations to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. In January, Daniels and Jackson both took part in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, and the Davis brothers played in the Shrine Bowl in Florida. This year’s NFL Scouting Combine will be held Feb. 24th-March 1st in Indianapolis.

The Cincinnati Bengals have hired Troy Walters as an assistant wide receivers coach. Walters was Nebraska’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the last two years before being let go this offseason in what the school called a “mutual” separation.

Husker sophomore relief pitcher Shay Schanaman earned a spot on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List, announced on Monday. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball each season. The right-hander from Grand Island is one of 70 players on the list. The Huskers open the regular season this Friday at Baylor in Waco, Texas. First pitch will be at 6:35. Nebraska’s home opener is scheduled for Friday, March 6th against Columbia at Hawks Field.

Husker senior outfielder Tristen Edwards was named the Big Ten Softball Player of the Week. Edwards was spectacular in Nebraska’s opening weekend at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In five games she was 7-for-16 at the plate (.438) with two doubles, four homers, nine runs scored and five RBIs. She also drew five walks to finish with an on-base percentage of .550. This is her fourth career conference Player of the Week honor. The Nebraska softball team will travel to Atlanta Friday for a Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup with Georgia Tech. First pitch will be at 3:00.
