Reminder—Finance and Utilities Departments do not call customers requesting credit card information or informing of electrical shutoffs

The Finance and Utilities Departments would like to remind residents the city of Grand Island does not call customers as way of notification for electrical shutoffs. In addition, the city does not directly call customers requesting credit card information; rather a customer who wants to pay an electrical bill with a credit card would need to initiate the payment by calling the Finance Department. Unfortunately, the City has been notified some commercial customers have received calls from a caller stating the customer must pay their bill immediately or electrical services will be shutoff. The caller then proceeds to ask for credit card information. This is a scam. Do not give any information out.To report a scam, please call the Attorney General’s office at 1-800-727-6432. For more information about the Finance Department and the electrical billing process used at the city of Grand Island, please call 308-385-5444 ext. 175.
