The UNK baseball team will open up a seven game homestand tonight, with game one of a three game series against the Missouri Western State Griffons.
The Lopers began the week with a 9-2 win at Fort Hays State Tuesday. The Griffons are currently in third place in the conference standings and have won six straight games. Game one of this three game set begins tonight at 6:00, and can be heard on KGFW and online at www.KGFW.com. Game two is tomorrow afternoon at 3:00, game three begins Sunday at noon.
The UNK softball team will close out their season this weekend. The Lopers are on the road tomorrow with a double header at Fort Hays State. They close out the season Sunday, when they host the Tigers in a double header at Dryden Park starting at noon.
In other Loper action; some members of the UNK track and field team are in Lawrence, Kansas this weekend for the KU Relays. The rest of the team will be in Crete for the annual Jim Dutcher Memorial.
The UNK football team will hold their annual Spring Game tomorrow at UNK's Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field. This will be the first real opportunity for Loper fans to check out the new offensive and defensive schemes that are being implemented by new head coach Josh Lynn. Instead of splitting the roster into two teams, the format of the game will be offense-vs.-defense. Saturday's UNK Spring Game is set for an 11:30 kickoff. The 8th Annual Loper Football Backers dinner and scholarship fundraiser will be held tomorrow night at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney. Since it's inception, the event has raised over a million dollars for scholarships and other program needs. Last year, an all-time high of $228,000 - or the equivalent of 13 in-state scholarships - was raised. The program begins with a social hour at 5:30, followed by dinner and silent live auctions. Tickets, which are $50 per person and include dinner, can be purchased online, by filling out an order form and mailing in, or by calling Rich Broderson at (308) 698-5274. Corporate tables that seat nine, plus a current UNK football student-athlete, are available for $500.
The UNK volleyball team will host their annual spring tournament, the UNK Legends Classic, tomorrow at the Health & Sports Center. A total of 14 teams will take part, including four Loper alumni squads (Legends Black, Blue, Gold & White) and two teams made up of current players (UNK Lopers & UNK Antelopes). The tourney begins at 10:00 and should wrap up around 6:00. A total of four courts will be used, each match will consist of one set to 25 points and another to 15 (around 40 minutes in length). No admission will be charged.
The UNK women's soccer will close out their spring schedule Sunday when they host Doane University. Kickoff at UNK's Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field is set for 2:00 that afternoon.
