NU Update; Huskers Drop Penn State

The Nebraska mens basketball team snapped their three game losing streak with an 82-66 win over Penn State last night in Lincoln.

Leading from wire to wire, the Huskers (11-14, 5-8 Big Ten) shot 55 percent from the field in posting their largest Big Ten win of the season. The Huskers were led by Glynn Watson Jr. and Jack McVeigh who each finished with 15 points. The Husker men return to action this Saturday afternoon with a game at Ohio State. Tipoff is at 5:00.

The Nebraska women's basketball team will host 12th-ranked Ohio State tomorrow night. The Huskers have lost seven in a row and 13 of their last 14. The nationally ranked Buckeyes are riding an eight-game winning streak and have won 13 of their last 14. Tipoff is tomorrow night at 7:00.

Nebraska's Chad Luensmann is one of 59 pitchers listed on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List. Now in its 13th year, the award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball. Named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Luensmann was one of the top closers in the nation, posting 13 saves in 14 chances. The Nebraska baseball team will open the 2017 season Friday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz., when they face UC Riverside at 2:00 (CT).

After opening the season with four losses to teams currently ranked in the top 25, the Nebraska softball team travels to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend to participate in the 2017 ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Huskers will be joined by Big Ten counterpart Northwestern and ACC foes Florida State and Pittsburgh. The Huskers will take on 24th-ranked Pittsburgh Friday at 3:00 and Saturday at 10:00, before facing the 3rd-ranked Seminoles at 3:00 Saturday and Sunday at 11:30. One additional Husker softball note; Including this weekend, their first eight games are all against teams currently ranked in the top 25.
